Set Them Straight!

A Wonderful And Queer Time For "Most!"

http://www.qsl.net/ka1ymc/MePride.jpg

Mid Hudson Valley, New York - It was a terrific gathering of numerous organizations and folks from around the state at the first "Big Gay Hudson Valley" event.

A few of us arrived early in the afternoon to set up the tables, chair, lights, sound system etc. It was a "BYO" event in where people brought their own food and alcohol.

"Chippendale for sale!" What a way to get the attention of so many gay guys at an event! My friend was setting up our spot near the tables and when she brought out these 2 old collapsible chairs, I looked up at her and said "these things look so old they might even be Chippendale's" and to my amazement, many of the guys attention focused right on them and smiled saying, "Don't think so."

Unfortunately, after a few hours of the event, the organization groups tables and picnickers had to come inside as the skies above opened and the rain came pouring down (what entertainment it was to see how fast people can work together in getting everything out of harms way)!

As you can see from the picture, I was the "mechanized" queer who made sure there was plenty of Pride spread among the hundreds of party goers!

Later in the evening I decided to work off some "extra" energy so I began to dance (since the dance floor was pretty vacant). I started to spin around in my chair dancing to the techno music and just getting into it (if anyone ever tells you that people with disABILITIES can't dance, HA!). It wasn't till later that others came out to dance and dance they did!

"Thank goodness for a woman who carries her own tools and knows how to use them" After some excitement of dancing and just having a great time, I noticed something did not feel right with my chair. It turned out one of the handrails had partially separated and needed to be repaired. Of course with a "house" full of dykes, there had to be someone who had some tools! I tracked down my friend Grace who came to my rescue and got things back in order. She is like my own personal AAA!

The one annoyance was this guy who was drunk. He insisted on pushing me around in the chair as well as saying some pretty nasty things and wanting to kiss me. I made sure he knew that that wasn't an option open for discussion!

Now, to "set them straight.."
One of the party goers was there with her daughter and boyfriend. The boyfriend kind of paced a bit and then sat in a corner worried because he was never "exposed" to a room full of queers! Of course when I heard that, I had to offer some help! Sooooo, I went over to him and said "if anyone here tries anything, you come to me and I will be sure to set them straight!" And, as a last bit of comforting gesture I told him, "unfortunately, we don't rub off on you."

Happy upcoming Pride To All!

Thanks Proposition 8 For "Ending The Confusion!"

"Now My Children Know"
View Image

This morning as I sit watching the news from the comfort of my bed, I am greeted by the repulsed smiling face of a supporter of Proposition 8. This young "educated" woman spews out "It is a wonderful day in California as Proposition 8 is upheld because in educating our children, there will be no more confusion as to who brings children into the world because there is only 1 wife, a woman and 1 husband, a man."

Aren't you glad that we are now "educated" on how children are procreated? I never knew that it was just with 1 wife (a woman) and 1 husband (a man) as many of those so called "protectors of marriage" have had numerous interests on the side that have often brought unwanted "mistakes."

As I sat and continued taking notes in "Procreation Class," I began to ponder some tough questions like:

  • How come senior citizens are "allowed" to marry? They don't bring children into the world.
  • How come people who don't want children are "allowed" to marry? The don't bring children into the world.
  • How come people who can't have children are "allowed" to marry? They don't bring children into the world.
  • How can "Octomom" have all those children? She is not married!
Please, dear procreation teacher and supporter of your coveted Proposition 8, can you help to shed some light on these questions because like me, there are so many others asking the same and similar questions.

Now to the best part of class, the practicals! Join the true educators and underpaid heroes who have and continue the fight for equality for you and I, the freedom fighters who demand action! Let's head out and make some real noise and impact for we know, IT IS FAR FROM OVER!

Hatred To Remain Law Of The Land In California

With Sadness And Grief, I Inform You, Proposition 8 To Stand...

California - In an anticipated and expected decision, the California Supreme Court has upheld the hateful Amendment known as Proposition 8, but rules the 18,000 already married prior to the Amendment will remain legal,

The 6-1 decision written by
Chief Justice Ron George rejected an argument by gay rights activists that the ban revised the California constitution's equal protection clause to such a dramatic degree that it first needed the Legislature's approval.

The court said "the people have a right, through the ballot box, to change their constitution."

This is truly a horrible and bad decision for Californian's and freedom loving individuals the world over because it sends a clear message saying, "the tyranny of the majority shall keep the disambiguation in their place!"

President Obama, take a stand and do the right thing by overturn DOMA! It's this recent hateful California Supreme Court ruling that should be sending you a clear message as to why you need to do it now!

Decision Draws Near For/Against California Equality...

Marriage Equality California?

The California Supreme Court will rule Tuesday on whether Proposition 8 was a valid amendment to the California Constitution. Dozens rallied on March 30 against Proposition 8 in Sacramento, California to protest the elimination of the right of same-sex couples to marry.

California and the world - With a long and emotional wait (seems like eternity for those who's marriages hang in the balance), the decision regarding marriage equality California is to be made known and law of the Golden State on May 26th at 10:00am pacific time.

With 18,000 same sex marriage's left in a state of "legal limbo," the words out of the California Supreme Court will have many shouting for joy or left devastated.

This whole Proposition 8 mess has left so many feeling hurt and angry and for what? For the rights of hateful individuals to vote and deny or strip away the civil rights of a minority. This is not America.

I truly see this as the battle cry in America. A wakeup to those who have been struggling for acceptance and belonging.

When a group of intolerants can no longer take away the rights of others, than will it truly be a place for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...

We The People, Does That Include Me?

Fighting For Something I "have to do," Live...

Illustration: "We the People..." parchment

Being someone who had a difficult life growing up and encountering the various obstacles and struggles of just living life to the "best of my abilities," I have found the continuation of life a constant battle for many things others take for granted.

Things ranging from the ability to get around good to the support of a loving circle of people who truly care to a world that treats you just the same as their straight human counterparts.

Each day I awaken, I am reminded of the tragic event that unfolded many years back that have left me forever physically and sometimes emotionally scared.

Out of that tragic event, I was able to find a way to help others through my own empathy.

Growing up in a dysfunctional family, it has caused me to pretty much keep to myself as it is a struggle often to open up and let others in. I have learned that in this world, it is better to have a single friend who cares the world for you and is there for you than to have many friends who are there just for there own wants as most of my friends know I would always do what I can for them.

Another struggle in the battle of life I fight is the battle of acceptance. Being a lesbian in a world of hate and intolerance goes much further that just having the right to live and love as I wish including where I live and hearing the idiot neighbor saying something like "whatever that person is."

Consider the hand holding in public that straight couples take for granted or their affectionate kiss in public. Could I do that? Well, I could but it most likely would be frowned upon or something worst like someone might complain saying that we are doing something "inappropriate" in front of their kids.

Consider medical care. Most straight individuals (with insurance or lots of money) look up a doctors in their phone books or through the word of mouth of family/friends. Not me. I have had to do the following;

* Research various doctors and medical facilities that are "gay friendly."

* Reach out to the local LGBT Community Center
(this option is not always available to many) and hope they have a referral service (referral services can include anything from legal services, medical, night clubs, bars, crisis intervention, events, etc).

* Ask others in the gay community.

Why does health care have to be this way for so many? What ever happened to the Hippocratic Oath? Didn't they go into health care because they care about others regardless as something so stupid an argument as their sexual orientation/identity?

Now, a new and dangerous mix is hitting the health care field, a growing list of doctors and health care providers who use their religious beliefs to deny a class like myself the care they need because they say it violates their religious beliefs.

It goes on and on. If it is not in the health care field, it is in politics. Ah, politics...

I was taught that the US Constitution was something of a very special and highly cherished American Freedom loving document.

But, now it seems like many are using their political and religious powers to chip away at sections of the document including the First and Ninth Amendments as well as the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. It is amazing that someone like me is included in all of them, or again, that's what I was taught to believe.

With an unprecedented number around the country and world eagerly awaiting the legal standings of an Amendment of hate called Proposition 8, to now gearing up for the fight for legal CIVIL marriage and civil union recognition in various states from Nevada, New York, New Hampshire to the overturning and Amending of the state of Maine's Constitution to take away a legal right of CIVIL marriage equality like that of California.

With the recent horrible and inexcusable event in a Florida hospital where a lesbian was denied access to her dying partner's last hours of life.

This scares and angers me and it should you!

This is America right?

Stand up and continue the fight for if we don't, the few rights we currently have and the ones we are gaining could be lost to the stroke of the bureaucratic pen!

Continuing the fight because, this is the fight of my life and yours.

"America's Freedom Fighter"

"Freedom Fighting" Bigot!

Rick Santorum

Pennsylvania - Former Senator Rick Santorum (R) is back in the news. This time he is trying to "save America" from the twisted and demented "attacks" of the LGBT community in our fight for equality and civil rights/liberties.

In case you forgot who this loudmouth of hatred is, I will refresh your memory. He compared the LGBT community to "people who have sex with dogs."

He recently went on to say in a letter to the anti marriage equality group National Organization For Marriage, any calls for marriage equality are a "radical assault by an out of control government."

Never give up the fight for if we do, what rights we have and are gaining could be lost to the stroke of the bureaucratic pen!

David Ogden Stiers Picture

M*A*S*H Star and musician David Ogden Stiers, has officially come out of the closet.

Stiers, age 66 said in a statement
"I could claim noble reasons as coming out in order to move gay rights forward, but I must admit it is for far more selfish reasons. Now is the time I wish to find someone and I do not desire to force any potential partner to live a life of extreme discretion for me."

He also went on to say
"These parties likely had heard rumors or harbored suspicions about me and wanted to make sure no embarrassing incidents were forthcoming."

GOP Potty Mouth

Messages Of Hate Representing North Carolina

Virginia Foxx

North Carolina - Representative Virginia Fox (R), a staunch foe of gay rights and viewer of "comparing gay to being a prostitute" is once again back in the news for her foul, deceitful and hatred spewing mouth. This time, an attack on Matthew Shepard.

In Fox's words "this was a hoax and was masterminded by activists to further the gay rights agenda"

Fox also went on to say,
"I also would like to point out that there was a bill—the hate crimes bill that's called the Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed, but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay. This—the bill was named for him, hate crimes bill was named for him, but it's really a hoax that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills."

It is ashamed to know that the people are represented by bigoted trash like Fox.

Contact - Representative Virginia Fox (R) or call (202)225-2071 and tell her to stop spewing her lies and hatred of the gay community for her political gain of right wing, conservative votes and that the government of, by and for the people refers to all people!

No Warm Welcome In Hawaii

Just Say Forget It To The Aloha State!

http://www.thetravelpeach.com/caribbean-vacations/dominican-republic/caribbean-cities.html

Welcome to the Aloha State! Hang ten, enjoy a macadamia nut, a pineapple or vacation and live it up but if you are considering taking up residence or you have "family" concerns or issues, DON'T BOTHER TAKING UP RESIDENCE HERE BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT YOU!

WE THE UNDERSIGNED BIGOTS OF HAWAII HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT GAYS ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE NOTHING MORE THAN SECOND CLASS CITIZENS. But, please remember we always welcome your gay $$
$$$$

The organization, Hawaii Family Forum has recently presented 10,000 signatures to the state lawmakers calling for a complete ban on any or civil unions.

Most signatures were gathered at churches and by going door to door.

It is clear. Don't consider Hawaii for any goods or vacations...

Email - Hawaii Family Forum or call (808)203-6704 and tell them that their hatred of our community and families is just plain wrong and that if they really believed in protecting Hawaii families, they would stand up for ALL Hawaii families.

And Maine Makes 5!

Congratulations To The Pine State In It's Fight For Equality!

Maine State Seal
AUGUSTA, Maine – Governor John E. Baldacci (D) today signed into law LD 1020, An Act to End Discrimination in Civil Marriage and Affirm Religious Freedom.

Baldacci, who previously opposed marriage equality was a supporter of civil unions, a law that gave some of the numerous rights that opposite sex married couples enjoy and said it was a question of fairness under the laws of the state.

"It guarantees that Maine citizens will be treated equally under Maine's civil marriage laws, and that is the responsibility of the government," said Baldacci.

Also, he went on to say "Just as the Maine Constitution demands that all people are treated equally under the law, it also guarantees that the ultimate political power in the State belongs to the people."

Contact - Governor John Baldacci and thank him for doing the right thing in standing up for all Maine families.

Politics As Usual...

Pandering To The Conservatives

Washington DC - It looks like business as usual at the White House when it comes to political promises for change as the picture above shows.

The White House web page section "Civil Rights" is a far cry from the former where it went into better details what "exactly" our new president had in mind regarding change for the better. Don't get me wrong, I really love our new President but am a bit disappointed since his strong voice has been "toned down" when it comes to changes in equality and fairness under the laws.

When will DADT become a faded memory? Why is it "cooling off" on the back burner when more troops are needed in Afghanistan?

What about DOMA? With the passage of equality in 4 states, why are there not more calls for its demise? When will the government realize that we should all be treated fairly under the laws especially when it comes to civil liberties/rights.

I urge you to contact - President Obama and let him know that although he is dealing with many issues that affect all Americans, some issues that deny our "minority group" are just as important as we too are Americans and families!

Yet Another (Yawn) Conservative Scandal...

Ms. Anti Gay California's True Colors Shining Thru

miss california carrie prejean

California - Conservative right wing hero Carrie Prejean has become more than a voice to the bigots of inequality. In a recent uncovering of this queen of right, here is what we are learning so far....

Poster child of the National Organization For Marriage (a national marriage inequality organization), unmarried Prejean has stated that marriage is "near and dear to her heart."

Speaking of her sister, Prejean states "my heterosexual sister is a second lieutenant in the air force and is a gay rights activist." Her sister does not know where she got that information...

Paid for. Pageant Officials recent confirmed they paid for her breast job in March saying, "we wanted her to have the best possible confidence to present herself in the best possible light on a national stage."

Ms. Prejean is enjoying the attention and limelight of NOM as they continue to build her up as the hero to save America from the destructive gay enemies of "traditional marriage."

What's next? Stay tuned...
