Onondaga County, New York - A Grand Jury has indicted Dwight DeLee, 20 for shooting Lateisha Green, 22 after thinking she was gay. Green had been shot and killed outside a house party in Syracuse on November 14th of 08.

Teisha Green, born Moses Cannon prior to her adoption of her female gender identity.

DeLee has also been charged with multiple weapons offenses in addition to the murder and hate crime charges. He faces up to 25 years if convicted.

According to the Transgender Legal Defense And Education Fund, this is the first prosecution for murder for a hate crime in Onondaga County which is located in Central New York in the Finger Lakes Region.

"It took a long time for Teish to live her life openly and proudly" said Lateisha's mother.
