Governor David Paterson Calls For Marriage Equality Vote
Albany - Governor David Paterson is calling on the New York State Senate to vote on same sex marriage, even if there is not enough votes to pass equality legislation.
Same sex marriage legislation passed the Assembly in 07 but failed in the former GOP controlled Senate (they refused to take up the bill).
Democrats who now control the Senate still don't have the necessary votes needed says Senate Majority Leader Malcolm A. Smith (D) who goes on to say he does not want to bring up the bill at this time but rather when there is a better chance at more votes.
Both Smith and Paterson are on record as strong supporters of marriage equality.
Paterson spoke on a local radio station saying he wants to bring up the bill for a vote ahead of the upcoming Marriage Equality Day lobby which is scheduled for the 28th of April. The event which is held annually is organized by the Empire State Pride Agenda.
Email - New York State Senators and tell them to do the right thing and vote for what is right and fair. We want nothing more, nothing less!
Keep a smile on your face and love in your heart!
