A Strong Voice(s) For Marriage Equality In New York

Pushing For Marriage Equality In New York

NY State Capitol Building

Albany, New York - Gay Rights groups gathered from around the state Tuesday at the state capitol calling for New York to do the right thing for marriage equality.

"What do we want, marriage equality! When do we want it? Now!"

It is estimated at around 2,000 supporters showed up for the rally and lobby day which is sponsored by the Empire State Pride Agenda.

"This is the first year we have a realistic chance," said Joann Prinzivalli of White Plains who is a lawyer and the director of the New York Transgender Rights Association.

Governor David Paterson (D) said "I want to make a marriage equality bill right here in New York state." That statement gave the governor a standing ovation.

Senator James Alesi (R) and Senator Steven Saland (R) are among the senators the lobbyist are hoping will vote in favor of the Bill's passage but in a statement made by Saland, he said "I do not anticipate supporting gay marriage."

Contact - Senator Saland or call (518)455-2411 and tell him that it's ok for him to have his beliefs but it should not get in the way of fairness and equality for all New York families.
