Rights Should Not Be Stifled By Fear

Governor Introduces Marriage Equality Bill

State seal of New York

New York City - In a show of support for equality, Governor David Paterson (D), surrounded by Christine Quinn (D), NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R) and various union and gay rights organizations leaders has introduced a same sex marriage bill this morning.

The proposal is the same bill the Democratic controlled state Assembly introduced in 2007. Unfortunately, the bill never made it out of the previously Republican controlled Senate for a vote.

Paterson said "gays and lesbian couples are denied over 1,350 civil protections such as health care and pensions because they can't marry."

"Rights should not be stifled by fear. What we should understand is silence should not be a response to injustice. And that if we take no action, we will surely lose" says Paterson.

Email - Governor Paterson and thank him for standing up against the bullies of bigotry and fighting for what is right!

Email - State Senators and tell them the time is now, that all families in New York State deserve equality. Nothing more, nothing less.

Keep a smile on your face and love in your heart!
