Iowa Supreme Court Strikes Down Gay Marriage Ban
In a unanimous vote of the Iowa Supreme Court, the state's law on discriminating marriage as only between 1 man and 1 woman has been struck down as unconstitutional.
"The statue that limits civil marriage as between 1 man and 1 woman violates the equal protection clause under Iowa's Constitution" said the justices in their 69 page ruling.
Civil Unions were discounted as an alternative to marriage.
The recent decision means that gays and lesbians will be granted immediate marriage licenses with the ability to marry in 21 days.
